Old Ursuline Convent

Situated at 11145 Chartres St. in the lower part of the French Quarter, this structure, reputedly oldest in the Missisipi Valley, was opened originally as a convent in 1734. Thereafter, it was a boy's school, a temporary home for the State Legislature, and the Archbishop's Palace. Today it is a church-sponsored building open to public tour and boasting a lovely shrub and herb garden.
