Earthquakes which shook southern Chile last week over an area extending 400 miles down the coast from Valparaiso and 100 miles inland, are reported to have taken a toll of nearly 10.000 lives. Concepcion, Chile's third largest city, suffered most, and two fifths of the houses were destroyed, and thousands of people killed. O.P.S. A completely wrecked street in Concepcion".
